The main research interests exist in three main areas: chemical process and energy, polymer process, and nano-bio process. The research and teaching activities in these areas are focused on the advancement of traditional technologies of chemical engineering as well as on the development of new materials and technologies such as polymer nanocomposites, nano-bio materials, and process modeling.

In chemical process area, three faculty members are actively conducting researches on chemical separation processes, chemical process control, and energy conversion/storage and catalysis. Particular emphases are on the "Separation processes", "Chemical Process Design and Process Measurement", and "Functional Nano-materials for Energy and Catalysis".

n the area of polymer process, three faculty members are involved in synthesizing polymer and polymer composite, polymer processing, and polymer separation. The followings are recent research interests in this area: "Chemical reaction and reactor design including copolymerization of Vinyl acetate and Alkyl methacrylate, Adhesion enhancement of polymer material using Plasma, and Organic/Organic and Organic/Inorganic nano core-shell binder", "Polymer solution thermodynamics including Polymer solution behavior at high pressures, Synthesis of polymer and polymer/nano composite in supercritical fluid, Supercritical fluid process - separation and purification of fine chemicals, and Synthesis of functional polymer composite - flame retardant polymers", and "Polymer/Nano Materials including Polymer hybrid materials for electronics and information technology, Carbon nanotubes, Polymer hybrid materials for optics, and Polymer rheology and physical chemistry".

Four faculty members are engaged in research and teaching activities of nano-bio process area: synthesis and control of nanopartcles, development of bio-elements.

Particular emphases are on the "Safety of chemical engineering and Safe Operating Region of Chemical Process", "Chemical complex material development and nanochemical material design". "Green chemical engineering and Green chemical material development", "Chemical sensor, Biosensor, Analytical chemistry, Crystallization and its analysis", "Nano scale material science and engineering including research for the nano-scale structure based material development, Researches for nano scale polymer/inorganic composite materials and separation technology based on crystallization process, Development of new analyzing instruments and nano probe based molecular manipulation techniques, and nano particle based technology", and "Nano process, Biotechnology/Bioenergy including Bacterial Surface Display, Aptamer based biosensor, Biotransformation of natural compounds, and Bio-diesel production".
