Educational Goal
With a view to solving global and societal issues arising from environmental pollution of all types, environmental specialists receive in-depth training in the science and technology relating to air pollution, water quality and supply, soil environment, environmental safty, industrial waste, noise and vibration, and energy use.
About Environmental Engineering
Environmental engineering deals with the causes, control, and prevention of environmental pollution. Achieving a sustainable environment requires not only management and treatment of polluted air, water, soil, and wastes, but also control and prevention of potential pollutants. Environmental engineering is particularly suited to students who are interested in environmental sustainability. The Department of Environmental Engineering at Dong-A University provides opportunities to such students to study both basic and systematic knowledge, as well as the working practice of environmental engineering. The Department of Environmental Engineering was established in 1966 (initially under the name of the Department of Sanitary Engineering) to produce leading environmental engineers who could understand and control the fundamentals of environmental pollution. This makes the department the oldest of the environmental engineering departments in Korea. The Department opened its Master's program in 1976, which was designated as a specialist department by the Korean Ministry of Education in 1979. The Department's Ph.D. program was also inaugurated in 1979. A total of 1971 undergraduate students and 376 graduate students had graduated from the Department by March, 2014; this set a record for educating the most graduate students among environmental engineering departments in Korea. The Department of Environmental Engineering at Dong-A University offers students not only theoretical knowledge in the classroom, but also opportunities to participate in laboratories, design classes, and field studies. |
